Response to "Lollipops and Guns"
I think that the main message of the text is that people who perform terroristic acts still can be "normal" people with feelings. I think that the author wanted to show the readers that the main reason behind most terroist acts is that there is always something that the terrorists are upset or angry about, such as a corrupt government or racism in the country. Sadly, violence is sometimes one of the very few ways to get your voice heard and you will definitely get noticed and get attention if you perform these violent acts against innocent people. I think that the author wanted the readers to understand why some people would do these things and instead of just calling them "heartless monsters" or something like that the author gives an explanation to why terrorism exists. In some countries the government is very strict about what you can do and what you can't do and will maybe put you in jail or charge you if you want to state your opinion about something that the government wants to silence. Terrorism is sometimes just a way to get your voice heard and even though it is a horrible and often very bloody way to get heard, it's sometimes one of the few ways to do so.
